Guiding Principle 2:
I AM Apt at Teaching the Subjects for Which I Am Responsible

Explore how I present concrete evidence of my capacity to teach the subjects for which I am responsible.

Over the past seventeen years, I have developed various strategies to enhance critical thinking in my students and have consistently reflected on my practice in order to improve my efficacy. In addition to the many instances of the use of technology to improve participation and learning outcomes, I have also utilized WhatsApp Groups and Google Classroom to deliver instruction and obtain feedback from my students. I use a student-centred approach quite effectively and have managed to get my students actively involved in their learning through group work and presentations.The evidence on this page clearly demonstrates the work of a teacher who is knowledgeable and able to apply her knowledge to enhance student achievement.

My Action Plans as a Classroom Teacher

As a proactive practitioner, I make ambitious plans for myself and my students at the beginning of the academic year. These plans are always geared towards self-development and student success. For the last academic year, I set out to accomplish my goals despite the challenges.

One of my goals for this academic year was to assist my students to score at least 40/45 in their CSEC English SBA. By having classroom consultations, I was able to assist some of my students to achieve this goal.

A scope and sequence is a document that allows educational stakeholders to see a snapshot of how the teacher has organized content to achieve learning. From my scope and sequence, you will discern the depth of thought that has been invested in ensuring that learning occurs in a logical and coherent manner.

The Unit Plan is one of the most valuable instruments in pedagogy and andragogy. I designed this unit plan template using my experience and knowledge as an educator. From my unit plan, you can extrapolate all the critical elements in the teaching-learning process and follow a logical sequence of content, activities and sources of content.

My L.A.F.S.A. & R^2AC Lesson Plans for Teaching Language Arts & Comprehension

MY BIG IDEas

The COVID-19 pandemic induced school lockdowns resulting in our students losing precious contact time and losing aptitude in the Language Arts Skills. My response was to conceptualize a lesson planning strategy that would reinforce the Language Arts Skills in each lesson. Many times, this is instinctively done, however with the L.A.F.S.A Lesson Plan, the teacher makes a concerted effort to reinforce and strengthen these skills.

 

Since Comprehension was now to be taught at Grade 10, I also created the R^2AC Method of approaching comprehension.

what is l.a.f.s.a.& r^2ac?

The L.A.F.S.A. Lesson plan which I conceptualized in response to the learning loss brought about by school lockdowns is a strategy that reinforces the Language Arts Foundation Skills (L.A.F.S.A). The foundation skills reinforced in each Language Arts lesson are : Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Viewing. 

 

The R^2AC Comprehension strategy helps to improve comprehension performance by requiring students t to Read the passage and questions, Re-read the passage, Answer the questions and Check their answers.
